The Origins of PQASSO
The PQASSO approach is based on the pioneering work done by the Kids’ Clubs Network in developing the ‘Aiming High’ quality assurance scheme for kids’ clubs, playgroups and other forms of primary childcare provision. ‘Aiming High’ was produced in 1994.
Tony Farley, national training officer for Charities Evaluation Services from 1993 until 1997, was chief instigator and lead author of the first edition of PQASSO which sought to realise the potential for ‘Aiming High’ to be applied to other small organisations or to projects within larger organisations. Charities Evaluation Services produced the first edition of PQASSO in July 1997.
The following individuals and organisations also contributed and without their help the first edition would not have been possible. Pat Anderson; Anna Wòjtowicz; John Beecher and Advocacy Partners; Karma Nirvana; Jasvinder Sanghera and POPAN (Prevention of Professional Abuse Network); Frances Blunden and Margaret Cartridge; Seaview Projects; John Evans and all the team; Haroon Bashir; Libby Cooper; Jean Ellis; Andy Miller and Peter Williams.
The second edition of PQASSO was published in 2000 and the third edition in 2008.
